Have you ever wondered about the mantras you hear chanted at the
beginning and end of class or in yoga music? Ever felt a healing
energy wash over you when you chant the word 'AUM' as a collective?
In this intro workshop we'll explore just what makes Sanskrit so very
special. We'll explore what mantras are all about, how and why we
chant them, and why we chant in Sanskrit in particular.
We'll also unpack why sound is such a key element of a yoga practise,
and how movement can be transformed by sound and mantra. More than
anything else, we'll chant, we'll sing; and we'll give you some
Sanskrit magic to take and enjoy in your own yoga practise.
No previous experience is required and everyone is welcome, from
complete beginners to Sanskrit students. All you need to bring is your
voice, and a keenness to sing/chant as part of the collective, in a
safe, supportive and fun environment.
About Roshni:
Roshni discovered yoga as a physical practise in 2016, but her love of
Sanskrit went back much further than that. From childhood, she held a
fascination for all things 'India' and began learning the Hindi
language at a local community school when she was 13. Her language
teacher began taking her to the local Temple, where she discovered
Kirtan (spiritual singing), and the art of chanting. She began
studying sacred Hindu texts under the guidance of Sri Devendre Ji
Kainthola and, following her yoga teacher training in 2018 with Carla Webster at Prana Yoga Studio, began
studying Sanskrit with the Yoga Nidhi institute in Chenai, India.
Roshni says: "I'm not a teacher; or a professional! simply a student
of this rich, great tradition; who is blessed to share what little I
know with others."
Roshni offers this introduction to chanting by popular demand, from
friends and fellow ashtanga students who enjoy her chants at the end
of Mysore class!
If you've ever been remotely curious about chanting, please do come
along; your support will be appreciated, and also help team Prana to
guage whether there is a demand for more of these types of sessions.
We look forward to welcoming you.
