An in-depth exploration of how yoga can regulate the nervous system and support students with mild to moderate mental health challenges. Focus on the autonomic nervous system, vagal tone, the gut-brain axis, and evidence-informed yoga practices for resilience.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the physiology of stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Understand the role of the ANS and vagus nerve.
- Apply pranayama, restorative asana, mindfulness, and metta meditation.
- Design classes and 1:1s that support emotional regulation and resilience.
Content
- Neurophysiology of stress (SNS/PNS balance).
- Types of anxiety (state vs trait).
- Gut-brain connection and stress hormones.
- Yogic practices: body scan, nadi shodhana, metta, grounding postures.
- Sequencing for nervous system balance.
Hours: 30 contact, 10 non-contact (reading, journalling, assignments).
